Copyright Housekeeping

Hi guys,

I haven't been ignoring you, and I'll post shortly on a plan for the next stage, but in the meantime we need to do some housekeeping.

The OEB is under a CC0 licence - it is as close to public domain as we can get that still works all over the world (dedications to the public domain don't work as well outside the US). Details at: http://creativecommons.org/about/cc0

You are increasingly participating (thank you!) and we should formalise that a little bit so we can easily deal with publishers and other organisations who want to use the OEB and are used to commercial copyright.

If you have made suggestions, changes etc, could you please let me know for the record that you are happy for anything you contribute to be released under the CC0 licence, either by replying to this email or sending mail to me privately at oebible@openenglishbible.org. Thanks.

Secondly, I would like to set up a file on the Github repository to acknowledge your participation. What do you think? I've put some wording below.

Cheers, Russell

CONTRIBUTORS

The Open English Bible is the end result of conversation, collaboration and participation by the Open English Bible community. This file lists some of the people involved. The contributions they and other contributors not listed here have made to the Open English Bible have been released to the public domain by being licenced under the Creative Commons Zero licence, a copy of which is available for reference at http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/

For the record, I'm happy for anything I contribute to be released under the CC0 license. ;) It's one of the many cool things about this project.

Yes, any work I do on the Open English Bible is intended for release into
the public domain.

Also, in the contributors section I think it would be a nice gesture to
include the names (those that are known) of the translators of the
Twentieth Century New Testament -- not mixed in with ours but set apart
rather like the New Jerusalem Bible does with the original JB translators.
Some of the TCNT names aren't known but most are from their files which
still still exist. A handy summary is found at
http://www.bible-researcher.com/twentieth.century.html

That's a good idea.

The best source of info on the TCNT authors comes from Kenneth W. Clark, “The Making of the Twentieth Century New Testament,” Bulletin of the John Rylands Library, 38 (1955), which is available:

It doesn't list them all, but we can extract quite a few. (The article's well worth reading, btw)
