Kindle Version

waynejayes
Hi there I have prepared a kindle (azw3) version of the NT.  If anyone would like to download and test it out please go to http://www.grahamstowncathedral.org/publications/ebooks/index.php

There is still some work required the automatically generated Table of Contents needs to be tweaked, there may be some other bugs, would be great to get some feedback.

Hi Wayne,

Great! I don't have a Kindle, but I'll see if I can borrow one to have a look.

What was the process you used? It might be a good idea to look at ways of automating it so that new versions can be pushed out easily. Maybe even put it on the Kindle store.

Hello Russell, I'm still working out the best way to get this done, but the way I've done it so far is:
Prepare a clean and correct html version of the text (I use Notepad++ and edit the html by hand)
I first tried Calibre to generate the kindle version, but I found it a bit cumbersome, so then I downloaded amazon's kindlegen and kindle pre-viewer software together with the manuals and then created the necessary xml files (again by hand) and finally ran all the files through kindlegen.  The key thing is to start with clean html.

best regards

Wayne

Hi Wayne,

I opened the file in the Mac version of the Kindle Preview, which worked.  For some reason it wouldn't preview for the iPhone or iPad Kindle app, only the Kindle proper. Does it work for you?

If we can get a really nice version, I can reverse engineer the XML files to make the creation of them automatic.

Best, Russell

Hi guys,

I've tried to build a Kindle version and an ePub version.  If you have a Kindle or other eReader, try:

You may need to right click on the links and select 'download file' or similar.

Let me know how you go!

Russell
