Potential release build

Hi guys,

I had some work work to do (isn't it annoying to have to work for a living :) but I'm back and I've put up a potential build for release at:

http://openenglishbible.org/oeb/2013.11

I've built PDF, Word, Txt, Single HTML, Epub and Kindle for both US spelling and Commonwealth spelling, and the new online reading html and the older study html in US spelling.

Can you maybe check it out looking for show stoppers? If there's nothing horribly, terribly wrong we should declare it a release and start work on the next one including all of your outstanding comments.

Cheers,
Russell

I was about to make a post and ask if I had misunderstood the release schedule ;)

Glad to have you back! Things look good, no showstoppers I can find.

Hi

I'm somewhat new to this bible translation so forgive me if this is a
specific editorial decision, but...

I was looking at the Gospel according to St Matthew, and I noticed that
subsequent paragraphs of a quotation aren't preceeded by open quotes,
for instance:

[Matthew 5:1] On seeing the crowds of people, Jesus went up the hill;
and, when he had taken his seat, his disciples came up to him; [2] and
he began to teach them, saying
[3] ‘Blessed are the poor in spirit,
 ...
[13] You are salt for the world.

Now, 5:13 starts a new paragraph, but it doesn't have an open quotation
mark. English convention is to have open quotation marks there, so it
looks sloppy to me.

I've taken a look at the Github sources and I see that there's no
specific markup of quotes, so this would require a manual fix at every
occurrence. I'll be looking at Matthew this week anyway; would you like
me to do it and submit a merge request on Github? (Obviously it doesn't
count as a show stopper for an interim build, so feel free not to hold
up the release for it.)

Thanks

Hi Tristan,

That's an interesting point, thank you for raising it!

Rather than you going through and looking for where quotes should be just yet, I think I should have a closer look first.  The reason for this is that we have to build various versions of the OEB from the USFM files. Not all of those versions will have paragraphs - some are just the text, especially modules for electronic bible study software like eSword. If we manually put in quotes to make the PDF look good then there will be extra quotes in the software versions.

Maybe we need a software solution that adds or removes the extra quotes as is appropriate for the medium and typography convention?
