Hi guys
I’ve pushed the 2020.2 release to the website.
Of course this doesn’t mean that changes can’t be made!
As I said below I’m not trying to get Isaiah into shape.
Cheers Russell

Hi everyone,

I have a trial build of the OEB including Amos now up on GitHub.

See in the artifacts/ directory for a PDF etc.

A downloadable MS Word file of Amos is at:

Please let me know any obvious showstoppers!

The plan would be to let this settle for a bit then if there are no objections to move it to a full release.

Amos is the last of the Twelve to be done. After this, the next stage in the plan* is to move to the major prophets, starting with Isaiah.

We are lucky to have a McFadyen translation of Isaiah which is easier to work with then the versions we’ve been working from for the minor prophets so hopefully it won’t be too long in doing.

I hope you are all safe and well in these strange times!

Russell

Just checking in on the OEB after being away for a long while. Glad to see it still being updated.

Did my other work on suggestions for the smaller letters (1st Peter, John's epistles, etc) in the forum in the earlier years seem helpful? Did some of those make it in?

Happy to take on additional suggested fixes for future letters but only if it adds value to the future OEB releases...

Hi Tim,
Great to hear from you again!

I did enjoy your work, and it was helpful.

My focus at the moment is mainly on getting the OT done. More than anything else, we need to get all 66 books on the table (and worry about Apocrypha later :)

I’m working on Isaiah at the moment.

What would be most helpful, if you or anyone else here has the interest and time, is to take one of the other Major Prophets (Jeremiah would be the obvious starting point) and go through it, rather than the NT.

The way to do it would be to do a first pass of changes which are simple and obvious. So things like Jehovah->the Lord, getting rid of thees and thous, fixing capitalisation and punctuation, and flagging translation choices which look odd for later, proper, consideration.

This turns out to take a surprisingly large amount of work and is a big slowdown on progress - but on the other hand, it is something easily checked, accepted and added into the OEB.

In any case, as I said good to hear from you,
Cheers Russell

Glad to help: let me dig in and see what book I might be able to adopt.

I might take on Daniel. Let me look and think if I can help on that, might be a bit at a time...
Where is the rough version of Daniel that needs help? I didn't see it in the "Read OEB" link....

Thanks for that feedback. After the OT is, further along, I could go back and look at some of the past things I suggested in the smaller NT letters but that didn't make it in yet -- and see if after some time away if those suggestions still look good to my eyes...

Re: 2020.2 Release - adding Amos

JohnRigdon
I have done some editing of the following books for purposes of recording
them.  I have paused further work in this area, waiting for some word on
the texts to use for the other books.

My edits can be used as a first working draft.  I have done nothing for
checking original texts, merely worked to make the existing texts readable
and compared with ESV, NIV, and KJV for problem words and passages.

Genesis
1 Samuel
2 Samuel
Jeremiah

I can send my audio working copies if you want.  These have the verse
numbers stripped out, but chapter headings are there and that changes I
have made are highlighted.  If it will help, I can work my changes back
into the existing copy with verse numbers.

Actually, all audio files have some changes to the existing texts.  I have
highlighted changes in all books.  New Testament changes are minor, but
some Old Testament issues are significant.

The audio files are located at

In reply to this post by Timchambers
The source USFM of Daniel is at:

https://github.com/openenglishbible/Open-English-Bible/blob/dev/source/27-Daniel.usfm.db

And a rtf doc (can be opened in MS Word etc) at:

(You may need to right click the link and select ’download file’ or similar)

Daniel is slightly different in that it hasn’t come from McFadyen but from Kent. But the idea is generally the same - going through for clearly obvious errors and maybe flagging more complex issues.
