The Magnificat

Brian J. Henry
This post was updated on .
Since it's the Dormition, I figured I'd give the Magnificat a look over. (Luke 1:46-55)
“My soul exalts the Lord,
[And] my spirit delights in God my Savior[,] <;>
For he has <remembered>[looked with favor upon] his humble servant girl[.] <;>
<And> From [now on¹ all generations will call me blessed;] <this hour all ages will count me happy!>
<Great things has> [For] the Almighty [has] done [great things] for me[,] <;>
And holy is his name[;] <.>
[He has mercy on those who revere him
   in every generation.² ]
<From age to age his mercy rests
  On those who honor him.>

[He has done powerful deeds with his arm;]<Mighty are the deeds of his arm;>
He [has] scatter[ed] the proud[;] <with their own devices,>³
He [has] cast<s> down <princes>[the rulers] from their thrones,
And [has lifted up] the humble;  <he uplifts;>
[He has filled the hungry with good things,] <The hungry he loads with gifts,>
And the rich he [has] sen[t away empty.] <ds empty away.>
He has stretched† out his hand to his servant Israel,
  Ever mindful of his mercy[,]
<(>As he promised to our ancestors[,] <)>
<For> [To] Abraham and his <race>[descendants] for ever.”
¹ NET notes this is a recurring phrase of Lukes (5:10; 12:52; 22:18, 69; Acts 18:6)
² KJV-ESV/NIV: “from generation to generation”
BCP Rite I: “throughtout all generations”
CEB: "from one generation to the next"
³ NRSV/ESV: “in the thoughts of their hearts.”
NIV: “in their inmost thoughts.”
† what about “reached”?
